Although I was certainly a long way from being fat, I wasn't really happy with the way I looked in the first photo, although I suppose lots of people might be. Friends that have viewed the second picture are usually shocked.
I guess I looked OK, but I wanted to look better than just "average".
Yes, the pictures above were taken only 9 weeks apart. (Yes, that's really me. Don't believe it? There's nothing I can do about that, but if you're skeptical I don't blame you.) You can see that I didn't start completely out of shape or morbidly obese. Believe me, it's doable.
It took 2 months for fat loss to go from 13% bodyfat down to 9% (fast weight loss promises will actually increase your body fat percentage) and during that time my strength increased using Russian ex-Special Forces trainer Pavel Tsatsouline's techniques, with my deadlift increasing from a 230lb 3 rep maximum to 5 reps of 260lbs in one week.
The lower that body fat drops, the harder the body tries to hold on to it, making it more and more of a battle to continue fat loss while holding on to muscle.
